Ukraine Faces Its Harshest Winter of the War<\/strong><\/h1><\/div>

Attacks on the energy supply are exacerbating the situation ahead of the fifth winter of the war<\/strong>. LandsAid Calls for Help<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>

Protection and Support for the Cold Season<\/h3><\/div>

October 2026 \u2014 <\/strong> The fifth winter of the war is approaching and could be the harshest yet. Intensified Russian attacks on energy supplies and other critical infrastructure are further exacerbating an already precarious situation. If electricity, heat, and water are cut off, it will be nearly impossible to heat homes, prepare meals, and manage daily life. Preparations for winter aid are therefore already in full swing. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/i><\/i><\/span>People who are particularly vulnerable<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>

We are supporting our local partner, Save Ukraine, in helping particularly vulnerable people get through the winter. At two centres in the Kiev metropolitan area, Save Ukraine normally provides temporary shelter for older adults and people with limited mobility who have been evacuated from high-risk areas. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/i><\/i><\/span>Help for Families and Children<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>

In the winter, the facilities are to be open around the clock to other people as well, particularly children and families who have been rescued from frontline areas and occupied territories. This includes orphans, children with severe disabilities, and children who have experienced sexual violence. The centres provide safe places to sleep as well as medical and psychosocial support. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/i><\/i><\/span>High demand <\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>

To ensure that children and families can be provided for during power outages and extreme temperatures, and that the centres remain open, Save Ukraine needs, among other things, non-perishable food, warm blankets, sleeping bags, winter clothing, and hygiene supplies, as well as portable power storage units, power stations, gas heaters, camping stoves, and generator fuel.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/i><\/i><\/span>Even a small donation can make a big difference<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>

Even a small donation can make a big difference: According to Save Ukraine, a food package for a family costs about 40 euros, a sleeping bag about 50 euros, and a warm blanket about 15 euros.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/i><\/i><\/span>More than 30,000 people<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>

Through these two centres, Save Ukraine aims to support more than 30,000 people over a five-month period. Together, they can reach up to 2,000 people each day. In addition, the organization plans to ensure that a day centre for children with disabilities has a reliable heat supply so that care, rehabilitation, and therapy can continue even in Winter. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/i><\/i><\/span>Support for Older Adults<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>

The urgency of the preparations was underscored by the field trip our project manager, Raquel Nerger, took at the end of August. In Kamianka-Buzka near Lviv, people from Khmelnytskyi, and Lviv expressed their concerns about power outages, the cold, and supply shortages. <\/p>\n

Older people in particular, who are barely able to leave their homes, need not only medical care but also regular visits and personal contact. Medical care is important, but the fact that someone comes to talk to them and listen to them is no less significant. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/i><\/i><\/span>Hot Meal<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>

Our partner, Caritas Khmelnytskyi, therefore plans to provide 90 particularly vulnerable people with a hot meal delivered directly to their homes once a week. This ensures that the aid also reaches older adults and people with limited mobility who cannot get to a distribution centre on their own. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

We must act now so that our partners can organize the necessary support in a timely manner.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Donations allow us to provide children and families with winter gear and food, keep safe shelters open, and ensure care for children with disabilities. At the same time, we help older adults by providing them with hot meals and personal care. <\/p>\n

We are urgently appealing for donations to support Ukraine this winter. Support is urgently needed now so that food, winter gear, and technical equipment can be procured in a timely manner. <\/p>\n
