Aid organizations join forces to provide vital support in Gaza and Egypt

May 2024 – Together with the aid organizations Help – Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe, Arbeiter-Samariter Bund Deutschland e. V., Kinderhilfswerk GLOBAL CARE – all alliance organizations of Aktion Deutschland Hilft – we are fulfilling our humanitarian mission and joining forces. We do not want to abandon the people in Gaza and the Palestinians who have fled to neighboring countries.

The organizations distribute hot meals to the population in Gaza via the local partner Goodwill Caravan. A total of 4,000 people will initially be provided with meals.

Medical aid is also provided through the distribution of dressing materials and other medical and surgical supplies. Hundreds of wounded people can thus be treated and saved.

The local partner organization works closely with the operators of emergency shelters and community committees in the southern areas of the Gaza Strip, thus recording the needs very precisely and organizing the aid transports via various border crossings to Gaza.

„The situation in Gaza is catastrophic, with more than 70 percent of the population in the north currently suffering from extreme food shortages. A famine is imminent and could become a bitter reality as early as May,“ warns Simone Walter, Help’s emergency aid coordinator. „We at Help have joined forces with other aid organizations so that we can help these people in the best possible way,“ Walter continues.

In order to support people who have fled to Egypt from Gaza even after their escape, Help also provides psychosocial support for Palestinian children and women in Cairo in cooperation with a partner. Pregnant and breastfeeding women also receive newborn packages with the most urgently needed goods.

„The families who were able to flee the ruins of Gaza have experienced the worst in their home country. They have been traumatized and need time to come to terms with their serious experiences. Children and women in particular suffer from the psychological consequences. We have developed an adapted program for them to help them process their traumatic experiences in Gaza as quickly as possible. However, this will take time. In order to provide long-term help, we urgently need more financial resources,“ adds Walter.

The Gaza Strip is facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. The population is suffering from acute food insecurity. Medical care is completely inadequate. Help us to help the people in Gaza and to support the Palestinians who have fled to neighboring countries!

Violence in the Middle East has escalated again since October 7, 2023. Thousands of civilians have been killed or injured and large parts of the infrastructure have been destroyed. It is a humanitarian catastrophe. According to Aktion Deutschland Hilft, the consequences of the escalation of violence for the region are alreadydevastating.

The humanitarian situation is worsening, particularly in the Gaza Strip. Hundreds of thousands of people have fled. Food, medicine and drinking water are in short supply. Humanitarian access is severely restricted.

According to the United Nations, people in the conflict region are currently in need of emergency shelters and protection, medical aid and medicines, as well as food and clean drinking water.
