Flash Flood in Nepal: LandsAid Launches Emergency Relief Efforts

Together with its local partner organization, KEEP, LandsAid provides support to families who have been particularly affected.

Emergency Assistance for Families Most Severely Affected

September 2026 – The devastating flash flood on 26th August has caused massive destruction in northern Nepal. According to the latest reports , more than 1,250 people have lost their lives, and over 4,200 are still missing. Thousands of homes have been destroyed or are no longer habitable.

The search for missing persons and efforts to assist the affected population are still ongoing.

Together with its local partner organization, the Kathmandu Environmental Education Project (KEEP), LandsAid is launching emergency relief efforts in the Kalika Rural Municipality in Rasuwa District, one of the hardest-hit communities in the district.

The assistance is tailored to people’s specific needs and is implemented in close coordination with local organizations.

The initiative is being implemented with the support of the “Aktion Deutschland Hilft” alliance.

As a first step, approximately 40 households will be provided with urgently needed relief supplies. These include tents, medicine, clothing, and hygiene items , as well as sattu, a local protein-rich food, and gedagudi, a mixture of various legumes.

Priority is given to families whose homes have been completely destroyed, relatives of the deceased and missing persons, the injured and displaced, and people in particular need of protection. Households are selected based on data verified by the relevant local municipalities.

Destroyed roads and bridges continue to make it difficult to reach some of the affected communities. To reach the people nonetheless, alternative transportation routes are being used to distribute relief supplies.

The measures are being closely coordinated with local authorities and municipal councils. This is intended to ensure that, even under difficult conditions, assistance reaches the affected people as effectively as possible.

Many families have lost their homes, personal belongings, and essential means of livelihood as a result of the flash flood. For those who have been particularly badly hit, swift and targeted assistance is now crucial.

Together with our partner organization KEEP, LandsAid provides needs-based emergency aid to households that have been particularly hard hit.

With your donation, you’ll help us provide urgently needed relief supplies and support people who have been particularly hard hit by the disaster.

Every donation helps make it possible to provide quick and targeted assistance.

Our expenditure and income are regularly reviewed by the German Central Institute for Social Issues (DZI). It has regularly certified the proper use of donations since 2009, which is why we are entitled to bear the corresponding seal.

Even after the initial cleanup efforts, the situation remains difficult for many people in the affected areas. Numerous families have lost their homes, personal belongings, and essential means of livelihood.

In addition to immediate emergency aid, it will take time for the affected families to return to their normal lives. We are therefore working with local partners to continuously assess needs on the ground and tailor our support accordingly.

LandsAid in Nepal

LandsAid has had ties to Nepal for many years. LandsAid was already active in the country providing emergency relief following the devastating earthquake in 2015 and the floods in 2017.

With its current support, LandsAid is building on this earlier commitment. The focus is on needs-based aid that is implemented in collaboration with local organizations and reaches those who have been particularly hard hit.

Kathmandu Environmental Education Project (KEEP)

For its current emergency relief efforts, LandsAid is partnering with the Kathmandu Environmental Education Project (KEEP). This Nepalese organization has been active in rural community development for many years and knows the affected region very well through its work in sustainable tourism.

Among other things, KEEP has an extensive network of guides in the Syabrubesi–Langtang corridor and is therefore closely connected to local communities.
