Earthquake in Venezuela: LandsAid launches emergency relief

Together with our partners we are helping hospitals provide care for the many injured people

The humanitarian situation is worsening

June 2026 — Following the severe earthquakes in Venezuela, the humanitarian situation continues to worsen. According to the latest official figures, more than 920 people have died so far, and approximately 3,360 others have been injured. Search and rescue operations are ongoing; according to media reports, more than 50,000 people are still missing. Experts expect the death toll to continue rising.

Since news of the earthquakes broke, we have been closely monitoring developments on the ground, analyzing the humanitarian situation, and reaching out to potential local partners.

After intensive deliberations, we have decided to commence providing immediate help together with our local partner organization LasComaesAndantes in Caracas and the Munich-based organization Visiones e. V. .The implementation will be supported by the collective Aktion Deutschland Hilft.

The initial relief efforts are focused on helping hospitals care for the large number of injured people. To this end, urgently needed medical supplies are being provided to strengthen treatment capacities in the hospitals that have been particularly hard hit.

The earthquakes have struck a country whose health and social services systems were already under severe strain before the disaster. According to the United Nations, some 7.9 million people in Venezuela were already dependent on humanitarian aid.

Given the large number of injured people, many hospitals are now reaching their limits. There is a shortage of medical equipment, supplies, and essential medical devices that are urgently needed to treat those affected.

The supply situation in Venezuela is already so dire in many places that patients have to bring their own medications, medical supplies, and in some cases even food. The earthquakes have further exacerbated this precarious situation.

In the wake of an earthquake of this magnitude, we are now facing a massive supply crisis in the hospitals. The chances of survival for the people who can still be rescued from the rubble are dwindling by the hour. That is why rapid assistance from outside is now crucial.

In order to ensure that the urgently required medical supplies are delivered quickly to the affected hospitals we need your support.

With your donation you will help us to improve care for the many injured people and support hospitals where the need is greatest.

Only by working together can we ensure that vital aid reaches the people of Venezuela in a timely manner.

Thank you very much for standing by those affected during this difficult time.

Venezuela has been in the midst of a protracted humanitarian and socioeconomic crisis for years. Despite some signs of economic stabilization, the supply situation remains dire for large segments of the population. According to estimates by international organizations, poverty remains widespread, while access to basic services such as electricity, clean water, and health care is limited and unevenly distributed in many areas.

The public health care system has been particularly hard hit. It has long been under considerable pressure—due, among other things, to shortages of medical supplies, the exodus of skilled personnel, and inadequate infrastructure. The supply of medications and medical supplies is not reliably guaranteed, and at the same time, high costs pose an additional barrier to access to medical treatment for many people.

In practice, this structural shortage means that medical services are often only available to a limited extent, and in many cases families must take it upon themselves to obtain necessary medications or supplies. Preventive care and the treatment of chronic conditions are only possible to a limited extent.

The severe earthquakes of the past few days have drastically exacerbated this already fragile situation. Hospitals are further overwhelmed by the high number of injured, while at the same time infrastructure has been damaged and supply routes are restricted. What was already a structural problem is thus developing into an acute supply crisis in the affected regions.

We are responding by providing targeted support to hospitals to stabilize medical care for the injured in the short term and to fill the most significant gaps in care.
